SWARDS for Socio & Economic Causes and Helping Homeless

SWARDS was established in 1999 in response to ever increasing need of sustaining farm based rural livelihood in the context of farm sector crisis particularly in the drought hit districts of Tumkur, Bellary, Chitradurga, Raichur and Gulbarga of Karnataka state, India. A group of local youngsters from the local native community joined together with the mission of empowering the marginal rural, so that the affected community decide and shape their better future. SWARDS was registered under the KSR Act, Income Tax Act and under FCR Act. SWARDS has its registered office situated at Badavanahalli, Madhugiri Taluk. Tumkur district, Karnataka state, India.

Health Awarenesss Program

Rural Healthcare is one of the biggest challenges that India is facing today.
High mortality rates are subjected to poor health care facilities in the rural
areas of India. More than 70% of India’s population is living under the roof of
rural setup. These poorly established houses experience lack of proper supply of
water and electricity. They manage to get a little water from far away distant
places in order to proceed with their daily activities.


Organic Farming

Organic agriculture can be defined as: an integrated farming system that strives for sustainability, the
enhancement of soil fertility and biological diversity whilst, with rare exceptions, prohibiting synthetic
pesticides,antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, and growth hormones.


Research and Development

Research and development (R&D) refers to the investigative activities
a business conducts to improve existing products and procedures or to
lead to the development of new products and procedures.


663 SHGs were formed and nurtured, nearly 9910 women members get membership in these SHGs and working in 33 gramapanchayats of Koratagere,Madhugiri and Sira taluks of Tumkur District. 550 SHGs were linked to NABARD Financial Services for financial assistance as loan for their income generation as well as consumption. 105 SHG were linked to the other Financial Institutions for getting to loan for start Up their new Income generation program and construction of shelters and some of them consumed for construction of individual toilets SWARDS has facilitate to getting approximate loan Rs.24 Crores to respective SHGs 64 training were conducted in 51 villages to address the gender issues and 31 volunteers to address the adolescent girls’ issues.


Since from 2013, SWARDS has organized 51 camps of community health covering 33 villages in Tumkur district benefitting 3210 people. In a Cancer Detection Camp 51 women were indentified positive of cervical cancer out of 402 women and 42 got cured after treatment and the others are under treatment. SWARDS has organized district level jatha with street plays to spread awareness on SWACHACH BHARAT concept through children and volunteers of the village. 12 Diabetes detection camps were organized with help of Kasturabha Hospital, Madhugiri Taluk Tumkur, and screened 141 Diabetics and facilitate to access free treatment in the respective hospital.


SWARDS has indentified 1531 below poverty line children and distributed them the school supplies and conducted sports, quiz and cultural activities. Since from 2012, summer camps were being organized that benefitted 510 children. Community awareness camps have been conducted (15 camps) reaching out to 7000 population addressing the issues of violation of child rights, early marriage, child labour. SWARDS has organized special training for the visually challenged towards enhancing their learning skills.

402 hectares of farm land has been converted successfully into organic farming practice by 361 farmers in Sira taluk, Tumkur district. 3990 farmers were trained in organic farming through PKVY program and 79 local groups were formed in Tumkur, Chitradurga and Bellary districts of KARNATAKA. 510 farmers were got benefitted in under conversion to organic farming by taking training and other inputs from SWARDS and got uploaded their data to get organic certification through PGS India from NCOF. 2130 farmers benefitted through training in sustainable agriculture by adopting Horticulture and aligned agricultural activities in 46 villages of Koratagere and Madhugiri taluks. 195 farmers under seed production covering 105 hectares of land in Ragi, Groundnut seed and 3120 farmers benefitted with good quality traditional seeds. A group of 33 farmers were enabled to establish a model of ‘native cow based farming system’ for sustainable increase of farm productivity. SWARDS has facilitated linkages for better marketing of agriculture products of the resource poor farmers of the district through BHUSTRESTA Company and BIG BAZAR, out which 3120 farmers got significant economic gain in the last three years.
